There's Something About Shorpy

Shorpy claims to be a vintage photography blog featuring thousands of high-definition images from the 1850's to the 1950's.


But here's one I found that was taken in 1963:

Oh yeah, buy the way, if you haven't bought a card or made other plans to celebrate Father's Day, now is the time to do so (you don't need to buy him a gift, just let him know he's appreciated).


Anyway, back to Shorpy:

The website/blog was named after Shorpy Higginbotham, a teenage coal miner who lived 100 years ago.

I agree with the site's claim that almost 100 years after being taken, the photos of Shorpy retain a strange and startling immediacy.

Alright, I didn't mean to get too carried away with Shorpy. There are thousands of photos on the site that was named after him, including many more of people working, but also photos of people having fun, like these waterskiers.
