Mike Rowe has a series on the Discovery Channel which I've never seen. In the series, Mike is an apprentice and learns a different blue collar job in each episode.
When I heard of Rowe's 20-minute online video entitled "Celebrating Work - All Kinds of Work." It seemed like an appropriate title, but during the first 8 or 9 minutes I was thinking that I shouldn't promote the video on our blog. Rowe was talking about a sheep-herding job he did where castrating the animals was a big part of the job.
I am recommending the 20-minute video to you now because it isn't about castrating animals per se and it isn't about anything truly "dirty," but rather it is really about the upside of real work. I think that Rowe is really onto something in the last 10 or 12 minutes of his talk and you probably need to hear what he says about the castration to understand the rest.
If you don't have 20 minutes to watch the video, just think about this: Rowe says that the crew he picked up roadkill with were whistling while they worked.
Hats off to people who really work!
